Remediation of the CaSOx dams next to the Sibanye Stillwater (old Lonmin) Smelter, which includes bulk earthworks, construction of subsurface seeping drains, geosynthetic reinforcement, rockfill dome over dams, geomembrane capping system, service road and fencing.  Background:  The integrity of the liner at the existing dams were compromised and the dams were leaking resulting in groundwater and surface water contamination.  The dry surface of the dams also resulted in windblown dust from the CaSOx impacting on the surrounding environment.
